Supporting education and health.
Friends of WEH is a 501 (3)(c) non-profit organization based in the United States. We partner with Women, Environment, and Health (WEH) in Cameroon, West Africa to help support vulnerable children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic and to assist women and others in the community.
Education for AIDS Orphans
The AIDS epidemic in Cameroon has resulted in a high number of orphaned children. We raise funds to help WEH pay for school fees, books, uniforms, and other expenses for the orphans and other vulnerable children so they can remain in school. Some of the students we’ve helped support in years past are now going on to college. The need is great and the potential positive impact on young lives is incalculable.
Health Care
When funds are available, we help provide medical and preventative health care for the children. In the past, nursing students from Linfield College in Portland, OR traveled to Cameroon to assist WEH in their efforts to support the community.
Job Training
WEH is opening a new training center in Souza. It will initially consist of a sewing center and focus on sewing skills so women can learn a trade and embark on a career as a tailor. Help is needed now to fund sewing machines and other equipment. The training center is ultimately expected to expand to other topics, such as baking.
Nutrition
Nutrition is also something we help support. Helping ensure that the children obtain the nourishment they need to be able to thrive in school is a topic of great importance to Friends of WEH.
