Our Mission

Support, educate, and empower orphans and women of Cameroon

The mission of The Friends of WEH is to support the work of Women, Environment and Health (WEH), a non-government organization (NGO) in Cameroon, West Africa.

We are a group of individuals originally brought together through our friendship with Ruth Musunu Titi-Manyaka of Cameroon, West Africa. When we learned that Ruth was working with women, orphans and families affected by AIDS we realized we could make a difference by supporting this dear friend and the women who work with her. So we formed a non-profit corporation with the stated purpose of supporting Women, Environment and Health of Cameroon. In the twelve years since we were organized, others have caught the vision, even though they do not know Ruth, and have decided to make a difference in an "on the ground" way by supporting this project.

We raise funds to pay for school fees, books, uniforms, and other expenses for orphans and other vulnerable children so they can remain in school. When funds are available, we help provide medical and preventative health care for the children.

We support WEH's work to raise the status of women in Cameroon by promoting girls' education and job training.

Part of our program included working with Linfield College to conduct biennial nursing internships with WEH. Several of our board members spent January of 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2014 in Cameroon with nursing students who provided health education and conducted health assessments. Unfortunately due to political unrest in Cameroon leading to U.S. state department advisories regarding travel in Cameroon, we have been unable to continue these programs.

Since we cannot offer in-person help at this time, we believe it is even more important to provide economic support for WEH to continue meeting the increasing needs for medical care, education, job training, and food.

We are proud that our work strongly supports the World Health Organization's Millennium Development Goals.

Please consider supporting an orphan's education and health by making a donation today.
