Success Stories
School support and training efforts are changing lives.
1. Students supported in years past now entering college.
This past year (2018) Women, Environment and Health of Cameroon was proud to announce that three of the children it has been supporting in school have not only completed high school but are now going to college.
When vulnerable children - children at high risk for continuing to spin in the cycle of poverty - complete high school and continue on to college, they move out of that deadly cycle and become contributors to the well-being of families, towns, provinces, and nations.
The Friends of WEH is proud to have a played a part in these students' lives. We wish them the best in their continuing scholastic endeavors - and beyond!
Students
One student is going on to college to study accounting and finance.
Two other students have been with WEH since kindergarten.

2. Training center established in Souza.
For years it has been the dream of WEH to establish a training center in Souza, one of the villages it serves. Once children have finished their basic education but decided not to continue on to college, it is important to learn a trade. Souza is an ideal central location but the feasibility of starting a training center there has always rested on securing an affordable location.
As of Fall 2018, WEH has been given the use of three rent-free rooms in a new publicly financed building there to begin training programs. When completed, it is expected that WEH will operate a sewing center to help train older students to make a living.
Culturally, new ready-to-wear clothing is not readily available and hence tailoring is an important career.
A local artist has begun training WEH volunteers to make bracelets and earrings from scraps of African prints. The city will be watching WEH's management of its programs as it hires trainers and equips the facility.
Other programs may be added, such as a bakery which has also been a long-time goal. Now WEH needs to equip the new training facilities with sewing kits and machines.
3. School supplies and books purchased for AIDS orphans
A primary goal of Friends of WEH is to raise funds to pay for school fees, books, uniforms, and other expenses for orphans and other vulnerable children so they can remain in school. We’ve met this goal year in and year out.
School fees are costly. To give you an idea, in 2015, this was the breakdown of costs per year for students:
Kindergarten: $75
1-6th Grade: $175
7-8th Grade: $190
9–12th Grade: $480
